 Artist Lee Ji-eun, Hwajungjihwa, Flowers Hold Hidden Meaning in Them
Flowers blossom and fall. Flowers wither away soon after they are in full blossom, the most glorious moment in their life, which is why they are received so fondly. The diverse shapes and various colors of flowers in full bloom do not express everything about them. They have their own intense feelings, which are reinforced by their existential finiteness derived from their brief existence and fast disappearance that follows. Their fundamental meaning is paradoxical and cannot be ignored as they strive to blossom in infinite beauty until their last moment of death. These aspects of flowers remind us of the transience of life that shines splendidly with a myriad of stories, but it eventually withers away dimly. Therefore, flowers make us brood on the private logic of life beyond the visible beauty on the outside. Like someone said, "If they do not hide, they are not flowers." Flowers hide in them the secret rites of our life that are as colorful and fragrant as their shapes. They probably feel even more splendid to us because they hide these contradictory secrets of life. They have contradictory meanings that convey or hide. Flowers created by the artist deliver a different truth hidden behind them, and they move towards a profound realization in addition to their visible beauty to the eyes. In this sense, her creations present Hwajungjihwa (花中志花) or flowers of different expression that hold hidden meanings in them.
