Artist Statement
After graduating from Kyoto Seika University, Japanese artist Kenji ETORI worked in ancient Kyoto, Japan, in a variety of fields from painting to illustration, design, and clothing production. Since around 2000, he has been creating three-dimensional works using a metal mesh, based on the theme of the fragile existence of people living in the city and the human body, and has exhibited his works in many scenes in Japan and abroad. His works are based on the concept of expressing the physicality and the form of the human heart.
Human life is like an event in a fleeting dream.
By using the material"mesh,"which at first glance has substance but has ambiguous boundaries with the outside world, to represent the afterimages of the world and people that pass away with time, the artist expresses his endless interest in the existence of the world and people, which no one can ever fully grasp in reality. |
